Article:  Cannabis for therapeutic purposes

Use

Cannabis for therapeutic purposes is absolutely different from leisure consumption of the drug. Both the effects and risks are different.

Therapeutic and leisure use (a substantial difference)

In the current debate on cannabis there has been much talk about legalization and its leisure use. Many people have used the debate regarding therapeutic prescription to defend consumption of the drug beyond the context of palliative use. Some people also advocate free consumption and defend the purported innocuousness and non-toxicity of the plant with the argument that "if therapeutic use is defended, then cannabis must be harmless -  it can even heal or provide relief for ill people."

Taking advantage of the debate regarding therapeutic use to reinforce other interests related to legalization and to spread the idea that cannabis is harmless, constitutes a significant lack of responsibility.

There are two completely different questions here, and it is not fair to take advantage of the demands and needs of many patients regarding this substance to defend its leisure consumption - which requires an entirely different approach and debate.
